BEHAVIOUR DIARY

Before we can change behaviour, it is important to be clear about what is happening.  Keep your behaviour diary for at least 7 days.  Carry it with you and note down each event as soon as possible after it happens, as it is easy to forget the detail if left to later.

It may seem like a lot of work, but in the long-term, it will be worth it.  Keeping a diary will:

  • Help you to get clear about the problem
  • Help you to get clear about what exactly needs to change
  • Help you to recognise what triggers your child’s behaviour
  • Help you to recognise how you respond to misbehaviour
  • Help you to see how your response affects your child’s behavior
