PARENTS CHECKLIST FOR FUSSY EATING
As with other behavioural problems, the key to understanding your child is to look at your own behaviour around the problem, as well as your child's behaviour. Check the issues that apply to your situation.
- Do you set regular meal times for your child?
- Does your child eat at the table?
- Does your child eat in front of the TV?
- Are mealtimes pleasurable?
- Are mealtimes a stressful experience?
- Does your child feed herself?
- Do you stand over your child when they eat?
- Do you make a lot of comments about what your child eats?
- Do you offer bribes to get your child to eat?
- Do you often give something else if your child refuses what is given?
- Do mealtimes last more that 20 minutes?
- Does your child help themselves to snacks whenever they want?
- Do you often wipe your child’s face and hands while they are eating?
Your answers to these questions will give you a clearer understanding of your situation and help you to decide whether or not you could do with a little help.
